PULASKI COUNTY — Everyone is invited to attend a “birthday party” in celebration of the 400th Anniversary of the Founding of America in Jamestown and the 168th Anniversary of the Founding of Pulaski County (March 30, 1839).

The event is planned for Saturday, March 31 at 1 p.m. at the Pulaski County Old Courthouse on Main Street in Pulaski.
Honored guests will be elected governmental representatives as well as officials of Pulaski County, the Town of Pulaski and the Town of Dublin. Others to be recognized will be Pulaski County families who are descendants of original Jamestown colonists.
The event is sponsored by the Pulaski County Board of Supervisors and the Jamestown 2007 Planning Committee, with Board of Supervisors member Frank Conner serving as Master of Ceremonies. Jim Bell serves as chairman of the Pulaski County Jamestown 2007 Planning Committee.
The invocation will be given by the Rev. William Smith Jr. and Roma Stuth will sing “The Star Spangled Banner.” American patriots and all veterans will be remembered with presentation of colors, raising of the flag, Pledge of Allegiance, the 21-gun salute, and “Taps,” with the ceremony conducted by VFW Post 1184; Korean War Veterans, Chapter 161; American Legion Post 7, and Boy Scout Troop 249.
A resolution, including rededication of the native stone arches mounted at the entrance of the courthouse square, will mark this historic occasion. The arches were built in 1907 to serve as the entrance to the Pulaski County exhibit at the 300th Jamestown exposition.
Elinor Farmer and Sharon Hardy will represent the Count Pulaski Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, in recognizing Pulaski County families who are descendants of 1607 Jamestown colonists. Pulaski County High School Players will bring some historical characters to life.
Birthday cakes will be provided through the courtesy of Virginia Cooperative Extension Homemakers Clubs, the Pulaski County High School Cougar Den, and other individuals.
In the event of inclement weather, the birthday party will be held in the Central Gym of the Pulaski County Administration Building, 143 Third Street, N.W., Pulaski.
