Workers at Royal Mouldings Limited in Atkins who were furloughed
in February are being called back to work, a company official said.
Ashley Mendoza, a public affairs representative with Georgia Gulf, Royal’s
parent company, said increased market demand has boosted operations.
“Demand for Royal Mouldings’ products has increased over the past month,” Mendoza said. “With
the increased demand, we are increasing our operating rates, and have been
recalling employees who were temporarily furloughed. We are very pleased
with the recent increase in demand and are pleased with opportunity to return
our valued employees to work.“
Mendoza
declined to say how many workers were back on the job, or for how long they
were expected to see increased plant operations.
Royal temporarily laid off 53 employees across departments due to the slump in
home construction, according to Mendoza.
“The layoffs were part of a company-wide initiative” that furloughed employees
in Georgia Gulf operations across the country, she
said, adding the move was designed to “balance costs with demand.”
