The Art League of Marion will host the 35th Annual Hungry Mother Festival where attendees will be greeted by artists and crafters along with musical artists, dancers, magicians and a variety of food vendors. The festival will be held July 18-20 at Hungry Mother State Park, U.S. 16N, Marion. The festival runs from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday.
Items offered for sale include baskets, decorative wood, pottery, furniture, jewelry, candles, fine art, soaps, stained glass and much more. Exhibitors will display their work through the park overlooking Hungry Mother Lake.
Living history encampments where local re-enactors will demonstrate life in a Civil War camp will be presented along with skirmishes planned for the weekend. Stop by the encampments for more information.
An array of food items will be available to satisfy cravings from a full meal to light snacks or just a drink.
Parking fees are $6 per vehicle, or individuals may purchase a special three-day weekend pass for $9, which is good for the entire festival. A free shuttle is available between Hungry Mother Park and Marion’s Downtown Days Celebration (furnished by Marion Downtown). There is also a shuttle within the park on all three days to take guests to more remote parking areas. There is no charge for this service.
The Art League of Marion uses 100 percent of the jury fees and a percentage of the booth fees collected from exhibitors to provide scholarships to Smyth County students who are continuing their education in art, music or theater. In addition, the Art League of Marion supports a variety of programs and community causes that promote the arts.
The 35th annual Hungry Mother Festival is presented by the Art League of Marion in cooperation with the Department of Conservation and Recreation and in partnership with Charter Media. Sponsors include WOLD-FM 102, WZVA-103.5, WMEV-FM 94, General Dynamics Employee Benevolent Fund, The Bank of Marion, Food City, Royal Moldings Limited, Berry Home Center, Slemp-Brant-Saunders and Associates, Smyth County Community Hospital and the General Francis Marion Hotel.
