Appalachian Power customers will soon have the option to choose renewable
sources for their energy needs.
The Associated Press reports the subsidiary of American Electric Power asked
the Virginia State Corporation Commission to approve a billing option that
would charge customers to select renewable energy sources.
If customers choose the option, it would add an additional $1.50 over their
usual power costs for each 100 kilowatt hours of that energy source.
Appalachian Power hopes to offer the option by September. The utility system
serves 1 million customers in Virginia, Tennessee and West
Virginia.
