RADFORD - Jeff Irby, Vice President and City
Executive for First Bank of Virginia,
has been named the Radford Chamber of Commerce’s Business Person of the Year
for 2007.
At an elegant dinner and auction Saturday evening in the Bondurant Center for
the Arts Norwood Room, fellow Radford business person Amy Harris presented Irby
with the Chamber’s annual award to a city business person.
“[Irby] brings professionalism and commitment to everything he does,” Harris
said. “He is a former Radford Bobcat who graduated in 1980 and then went onto
attend and graduate from Roanoke College in 1984 with a Bachelor of Business
Administration, and then started his impressive banking career in 1989.”
“In addition to all of his hard work and dedication to his family, his church
and his career, he spends much of his time giving back to his community through
all of his volunteer work,” she added. “He brings professionalism and
commitment to everything he does.”
Irby serves as President of the Noon Rotary, as a member of the Radford
Industrial Development Authority; he also sits on the President’s Advisory
Council for Radford
University, is a member
of the Red Cross Advisory board and is the Secretary for Radford Bridges.
Upon accepting the award, Irby said it was “a great honor” and joked that he
“hadn’t seen a banker on the stage” for the award in the past.
“Radford is without a doubt the finest community in the New River Valley
and I am so glad to be a part of it.
Irby also thanked his family, including his wife, Kim, for supporting him.
“She’s always been beside me no matter what happens,” he said.
Irby’s staff at First Bank of Virginia,
which recently opened a new office on Tyler
Avenue, was also on hand for his award.
Saturday’s auction was the Radford Chamber of Commerce’s major fundraiser of
the year, with the dozens of people attending the event vying for weeklong
trips to the beach, attorney’s services, gift items, massages and more.
The Chamber also honored outgoing board members and the organization’s
president and past president honored Executive Director Michelle Linkous for
her service to the Chamber, including increasing membership over the past year.
